F4 Subang Jaya Fish Head Restaurant

“A fish head restaurant in the middle of a light industrial estate? “, I asked my brother in law when he told me about this place. F4 (nothing to do with the famous singing group, F4) Fish Head Restaurant is located near Giant Hypermarket in Subang Jaya. The lot that this restaurant occupies is rather large and it can accommodate at least 60 to 70 tables. The dishes that we had in this restaurant are Fish Head Nyonya Style, Butter Prawn, Steam Eggs, Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves, Pork Belly with Salted Fish and Deep Fried Squid. The type of fish head that is popular here is freshwater carp. Although the carp is full of ‘Y’ shaped bones, the flesh has fine texture. The Nyonya Style sauce is tasty with right combination of sour and sweet taste. The aromatic and spicy sauce of this dish really increases my appetite, so I asked for ‘kar faan’ (add more rice). LOL The Butter Prawn is good too, served with generous amount of crispy butter fried egg white. Large white skin type sea prawns are used in this dish. My kids love the crispy buttered egg white, while I got to eat all the prawns, he he he! Century eggs are added into the steamed eggs dish. It has smooth texture, just like the Japanese Chawan Mushi. The century eggs gave it an extra kick! The stir fried sweet potato leaves dish is normal but the leaves are fresh, young and crunchy. The Pork Belly and Salted Fish (Ham Yee Fah Lam Poh) is full of taste. This is my son favourite dish. The dried chilly and salted fish combination gave this dish a unique flavour, yummy! The squid they used for deep frying with flour was rather large but the meat was surprisingly tender. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, this dish goes well with the Thai Style chilly sauce. Thumbs up for the Fried Squid with Flour. All together the total bill plus drinks for 5 adults, 2 children and 2 toddlers came up to RM104. F4 Fish Head Restaurant is a reasonable place to have a family meal. 2. I love pork belly with salted fish. Looks nice...but I think the batter used for the fried squids has room for improvement. I understand fried sweet potato leaves quite popular over there. Here, we can't get them at the shops...have to cook ourselves and even then, not always available at the market. I fry with sambal hay bee and belacan like kangkong.
