Be careful When Using Your PC Notebook at Public Places
I met up with my old time buddy just now at a Kopitiam near Jalan Kuching and we had a great time chit chatting. We were seated at the non air-conditioned place outside the coffee shop. As we were about to settle the bill, we witnessed a snatch theft that happened so fast that we were unable to give a chase.
A man who sat directly behind me was using his PC Notebook to surf the net and without any warning a motorbike pillion rider came by and snatched his notebook away. By the time I turned to have a look at the commotion, the snatch thief had already reached his accomplice who was waiting on the bike and they were gone from the place in just mere seconds. The poor victim only managed to shout at them because it happened so fast. By the time, I was fully aware of what was happening it was already too late to give a chase!
So, if you have to use your pc notebook at public wifi places, please make sure that you are seated in an enclosed area away from the roadside.
Sadly, nowadays the city is full of lowlifes and trouble makers!
Wow! Looks like it's never safe in public places! Snatch thieves are everywhere! If not your laptop, they'll be going for your handphone, wallet, PDA, camera etc. etc!
ReplyDeleteaiyoh..like that also can? my goodnesss... nowadays anything can happen in Malaysia.. it is just not safe to walk around even with a small purse or purseless... I heard they can just knock at our head from behind and then take whatever is in our pockets.. real terrible..i told my mum not to walk to market alone nowadays.. old ladies also are not spared...
ReplyDeleteanyway, thanks for sharing this Pete.. making us aware of our notebooks as well..
I can't understand why they must go online in public places...unless they do not have internet connection at home and will have to surf at places with free wifi...
ReplyDeleteFoongpc : Ya, lor, everything snatch, I think if walk naked, the 'dua biji' also they want to snatch.....ha ha ha! LOL!
ReplyDeleteClaire : I often heard about old ladies being rob on the way to the market. My old fragile mom was rob near my house in Chai Leng Park on the way back from the market. These people are heartless, if I get my hands on these robbers, they will kena from me!
STP : Hah, this is life in KL, lots of people work in the field, eg businessman, salesperson, so they sometime have to stop by some wifi station to do their work rather than get stuck in the jam going back to the office. I also depends on wifi station to submit my insurance cases!
Oh yes..snatch thieves are getting bolder these days. Becareful with your belongings.
ReplyDeleteCrimes are so frequent , only that we do not get to hear of all. Be wary of your surroundings as we're being targeted without us knowing. Easy to say but be vigilant as far as possible. Sorry for your pal.
ReplyDeleteI know how that feels. I have been a victim to snatch thieves before too... it just happened to fast, by the time you come to your senses, that person is gone already. No time to even see motorbike licence plate sometime. In which is why, witnesses are always important, because they are clamer and able to assist. But a lot of people lately rather not raise their hand and help anymore. Can we consider them accomplice as well because they don't help the victims?
ReplyDeleteHahahaha.. Peter your reply on 2 biji is very true. I cannot agree with you more.
ReplyDeleteAiyo...to all public surfers, chain la the machine (laptop/netbook) to your body. If people wanna snatch, you'd be 'snatched' along as well. You go EVERYWHERE with it. Just a thought la
oh no...this is so scary. thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice of you to give prior warnings to people, there are so many bad guys out there pestering others. I hate it but i know this is also what I can do for them...to give then advisory notice about those thefts and all.
ReplyDeleteMei Teng : Everything also they want to snatch....susah lah!
ReplyDeleteKeats : Ya, agree, we have to be more aware of our surroundings
ladyviral : Not many people in the cafe look up or tried to help! What a pity!
Pei Pei : Ha ha, everything sapu!
mommy : It happened real fast!
Ayie : to many of bad guys around, I guess modern life might be too complicated or too much pressure on themnto earn more money
