Fish maw is actually the air bladder of a fish and it is one of the authentic ingredients in Chinese cooking. Dried or deep fried fish maw is available in many Chinese shops selling food ingredients. I love to cook using fish maw and the simplest dish is the fish maw soup.
Ingredients
Fish Maw, 5 pcs, soak in water to get rid of oil
Pork Ribs, 700gms
Water, 4 bowls
Carrot, 1 pc, cut into cubes
Ginger, 1”x1”x”, smashed
Whole Pepper, 1 teaspoon, crushed
Dried Scallops, 5 pcs, soak in water
Onions, 1 pc, cut into four
Salt to taste
Bring water to a boil and add in the pork ribs. Boil until the pork ribs are soft then add in the rest of the ingredients. Boil for another half an hour. Serve with steamed rice.
oh I love fish maw soup...too bad it's deep fried.
ReplyDeletegood h1n1 advice as well!
They say it's good for health? One restaurant here cuts it into thin strips and cooks it like sharks' fins soup... Nice also!

ReplyDeletegood morning Pete.. for a moment, i tot it was bubur cha cha.. hahaa.. i must be yearning for that.. fish maw.. that is expensive, right? sitiawan ppl cook that with vinegar, red vinegar, but i think i prefer your style here... clearer soup...
ReplyDeleteFish maw is something I enjoy eating. This delicacy brings back fond memories of a dish I usually have along with hainanese chicken rice. My family normally makes a soup with vegetables and peas and add in the fish maw. Yum yum....
