Replacing Conventional Fluorescent Lamp with Energy Savings Bulb
I have been slowly replacing the conventional fluorescent lamps in my house with energy saving bulbs whenever the former failed to work. The conventional fluorescent lamp require a ballast which generates a lot of heat to work, thus will consume more energy and they also tends to make the surrounding ceiling paints to turn black. It also requires a starter device to light up therefore there is a time lag in response between lighting up and when we press the switch.
However with energy savings fluorescent bulbs, the response in lighting up is immediate whenever we clicked the switch because a starter is not required. It also generates less heat compared to conventional fluorescent lamps. The only disadvantage, like all fluorescent lamps, they contain a trace of mercury which is hazardous to our environment if not disposed of properly.
But then if we use less electricity, then the power plants would need less resource like coal or gas for power generation, which in turn would cause less environmental damage!
New energy savings bulb holder and socket. See how the heat generated by conventional flourescent lamp darken the paintwork on the ceiling and also its' casing.
let there be light ...and there shall be light. Yes a test pen is very important don't wanna be "satay-ed" or the Chinese used to say "will be three years older" (This is Chinese culture, would add 3 years when a person dies and some 5 years when the dead person exceeds certain age not sure about the age maybe above <80 years?) haha.
ReplyDeleteu r very handy.....ur wife is very lucky hahaahahha
ReplyDeleteI think all lights darken the wall or ceiling.
ReplyDeleteMy office uses energy saving light too, and the ceiling is black at that spot :/.
wise of u to test first.. last time one technician nearly got electrocuted.. he simply drilled and the driller got spoilt when it accidentally kena the live wire... i was not there to witness it but he told me...
ReplyDeleteJeng jeng! And there's the light! Thanks for sharing that Pete, we too here are slowly replacing our old bulbs into that energy saving bulb, it somehow saves us from high electric bills.
ReplyDeleteooh wonder the old houses last time also got burnt mark around the lights on the ceiling. now i know why :D
ReplyDeleteI've been using those energy-saving bulbs too...but the florescent tubes in some rooms in the house, I dunno how to change. Will have to get someone to come and do that...

ReplyDeletegood for you Pete, is there anything you can't do? I'm also concerned about the mercury, if the bulb should accidentally break in a lamp or something.
