Late Lunch in Dragon-I Restaurant at The Curve
Nice and cosy atmosphere. Look at all the minature terracota warriors figurines!
I normally prefer eating dim sum at normal coffee shop but since I have my little toddler with me, we choose to eat at Dragon I for its’ cozy environment. You can find this restaurant chain in many shopping complexes and it is a rather popular meeting place to catch up with friend while enjoying the wide arrays of dim sum they have to offer.
They have an open concept kitchen and you can actually see the chef preparing the food to be served. It is interesting to see how the chef (mainly from Hong Kong and China) making and pulling the noodles (lar mein) to form tiny strands. Dragon I serve mainly cuisine from Shanghai, Szechuan, Beijing and Lanzhou.
We ordered Spring Rolls, Meat Bun, Fried Tofu, Beijing Dumpling, Sheat Kap (dessert from frog saliva) and Pork Ribs Lar Mien (pulled noodles). There total bill came up to be RM74.75.
Here is the comment about the food serve plus the pictures.
Beijing Dumpling
Actually I mistakenly ordered this dish. I actually wanted the fried lor bak kor (fried carrot cake). Anyway, I decided to try it. The dumplings have meat filling and spring skins. Tasted quite good but I am not into this type of dumplings.
Meat Bun
The fillings for the meat bun has nice aroma and the skin is thin. On thing though, it is not oily at all and contain lean meat.
Spring Rolls
There is nothing special about the crispy spring rolls. Taste good if dipped in chilly sauce.
Pork Ribs Lar Mien
This is another dish that I like very much. The soup is rich is taste and the pork ribs are very tender. I added some of the fried chilly oil into the soup and this gave it an extra kick!
Fried Tofu
I like the fried tofu. The skin is crispy and well marinated with spices. The tofu inside has very smooth and soft texture in contrast to the nice crispy skin. Good!
The peanut tidbits.
Sheat Kap (Frog saliva jelly desssert)
I forgot to take a picture of this dessert. I was told that this jelly like drink is made from frog saliva. Anyway it tastes good! Ha ha ha!

ReplyDeleteI like their dumplings and lamen.
ReplyDeletefrog saliva dessert... I might try that once! Nice looking restaurant.
ReplyDeleteah, something i can associate with at last, lol.
ReplyDeletei remember eating at dragon i at my last blogger meet with a bunch of great blogger friends!
great food great company!
hahahah same comment - a bit expensive leh AHAHAHAAHA but i do pamper myself once in a while too lar hahahaha
ReplyDeleteThe spring rolls and tofu looked yummy!
ReplyDeleteI love Chinese food but am not a fan of Dragon I. I prefer Cantonese style of cooking.
The Char Siew and Siew Bak is easily one of the best I have ever eaten.
ReplyDeleteJoke aside, we always order 2 plates each cos most of us grab it before you can have a third piece. it is worth your money, yes I would say it is damn costly to eat there but give yourself a treat once in a while.
We had in Queensbay, Penang.
I was told some of their stuff are "air flown" from Hong Kong twice a week to all their restaurants in Malaysia. ::))
i think i've just been there once.. most of the time this place is so crowded and i just don't feel like waiting.. :p
ReplyDeleteThe food in Dragon I is OK, not spectacular. Once in a while dine there is fine, cos it's rather expensive : )
ReplyDeleteits been quite a while since i last ate a dragon-i, but i quite like the beef noodles in the curve outlet :D
ReplyDeleteThink its a stereotyped kind of feeling to have dim sum under the trees in an old coffee shop. Had dim sum in a new coffee shop and the "loong" (aiya dunno in English), those made of bamboo containers were all brand new. The mind is so funny thinking those seasoned 'black' colored bamboo containers would tend to make the dim sum taste better. True? Ah..Mind over matter.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the 1U branch. Doesn't like it much. Food so-so only:(. Expensive 1 bowl of noodle more than rm10. For the price I would expect it to taste exceptionally good. Taste ordinary only :(
ReplyDeleteWill the frog saliva turns me into Princess? haha Peanuts looking good!
ReplyDeleteOooooo... very nice! You make me feel like running to my regular dim sum stall to eat them. Jeles, jeles!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an amazing array of food choices you have. Frog's saliva though??
ReplyDeletepete you're back with vengeance, so much food posts again!
