Seafood Buying Spree in Pantai Remis (Fish, Squid & Prawns)

Pantai Remis in Perak is popular for its' fresh and cheap seafood. After taking our breakfast at Orient Star Resort Hotel in Lumut, we took an early morning drive to Pantai Remis to buy some fresh catch of the day. We passed by the busy Lumut port. I snapped this photo when we were crossing the bridge. Road leading in to the Chinese fishing village in Pantai Remis. It was a Saturday morning and the road is void of vehicles.
Produce from the sea being packed to be distributed all over the Malaysian west coast towns. The workers in the wholesale seafood warehouse were very busy sorting and packing the day's catch into large plastic boxes.
My little toddler was very excited when he saw the boats moored by the jetty. He wanted climb into the boat. I have a hard time keeping him away from the water while my wife were busy buying fish, prawns and sotong (squid). Notice the baby monitor lizard on the wooden planks?
We bought a large tenggiri (mackerel) for RM48, three kilos of prawns and 2 kilos of squid, all packed in ice box. The Cheh Kak Heh (green shell prawns) are very suitable for cooking Penang Hokkien Mee (Prawn Noodles, Har Mee). These seafood are very fresh and we paid a good price for them.
Then when we reach KL, my wife and I have to clean the prawns and squid till 12 midnight.......ha ha ha! LOL!

  7. I love prawns, but not easy to get them really fresh. Most of them sold at supermarkets taste half rotten, even if the head's still attached to the body.
