A Visit To Malaysian Sea Turtles Hatchery in Pasir Panjang Segari, Perak

After filling up our ice box with all the fresh fish, prawns and squid at Pantai Remis, we headed back south towards Segari to see a turtle hatchery. Pusat Pengurusan Penyu Pasir Panjang Segari, Perak (2km from Segari town and 5km from Jalan Lumut -Pantai Remis Junction)has been around for quite some time. A few years back when I visited this place, there was a fishing competition on, GP Joran and the place was packed with anglers. That time we were unable to find parking for our car, so we just headed off somewhere. However during this trip, it is strange to see the entire stretch of beautiful seashore almost empty apart from a small group of youngsters having a picnic there. The visiting hours are from Monday to Sunday(except Friday), 10am to 12.30noon, 2pm to 5pm and Friday 10am to 12noon, 2.30 to 5.00pm. If you want to see wild Penyu Lipas(olive-ridley turtle, Lepidochelys olivacea) and Penyu Agar (Agargreen turtle, Chelonia mydas), you can camp at the nice beach outside this hatchery. These turtles would come up to lay eggs from the month of March to July. The road leading to the Segari Turtle hatchery. There are many swallow birds flying in front of our car catching insect flying just above the road. Unfortunately they are too small and fast for me to capture on camera. The nice stretch of beach just outside the turtle hatchery. One large and old leatherback turtle (Dermochelys Coriacea, Penyu Belimbing). Unfortunately there was reflection on the water surface on this sunny day, so I didn't get a clear shot of the turtle. My kids were very excited to see real life turtles and they are huge too! Cute little leatherback turtle hatchlings. Water is very smelly! I think this pond have terrapin or penyu or tortoise in it but the sign says tuntung laut.....maybe wrong pond...LOL!
