The last of the Manjalara Macaque Monkeys - Macaca fascicularis
A family of Macaque Monkeys............................The leader staring at me! Howdy!
(Sorry, pictures are not clear as they are high up in the tree and the morning sun was shinning into my camera)
Only a few trees left!..............................................A shopping complex construction site.
These macaque monkeys(Binomial name, Macaca fascicularis) have been staying in this area (Manjalara, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur) for a very long time. Now that the last piece of their habitat here will be developed, they have nowhere to go. Their home is surrounded by modern infrastructures like highways and buildings. The nearest undeveloped area is more than 5km away and I don’t think the whole tribe can make it there safely. I saw one of the female monkeys is carrying a small baby.
As you can see from the pictures there are not many trees left. I think they are surviving from leftovers food from nearby restaurants. I don’t blame them if they invade the homes nearby for food as we humans have encroached in to their habitat. I sure hope that they can find their way out from here quick because a big shopping complex will be built in this land.

Ohh~~ special species.. but i can't see it clearly...
ReplyDeletewhy don't the monkey acting cute to you ho ? haha~ ^^ just kidding lah ...
ReplyDeleteBeverly : This species is quite common in Malaysia. Cannot get good shot because they climb very high up the tree when they see me approaching and the morning sun is shining into my camera.
ReplyDeleteArrowouiz : Ha Ha, They must have thought I am there to disturb their mates. LOL
Poor monkey...T_T, i really hope they will be able to survive and find one suitable place to live.
ReplyDeletePete... I HATE monkeys. I dun really care what species they are, because they are evil! Evil, I tell you! When I was a little girl, my parents brought me to Tg. Bungah to visit some relative. And some stupid monkeys chased me and attempt to steal my food! I cried on the spot, and had fever for 2 days because of that bloody incident! I just dunno why they din come down from the tree to chase you! :-P
ReplyDeleteI am afraid of monkey, they like to terrorise people and chase them for their things. Back experience with them before. x(
ReplyDeleteOMG the monkey looks very big! Sad story in Singapore too, many monkeys invaded the residential areas, and some are caught and being put to sleep :( Monkeys are very much like humans, so it's really sad even for them to see their mates get caught by the authority and lost them forever.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for your congrats :D
Hey, I've met these naughty macaque monkeys when I went to Batu Cave in Kuala Lumpur. :)
ReplyDeleteChobits : Yeah, agree, pity them.
ReplyDeleteCleffairy : Sorry to hear that but they have no choice because they are so used to human feeding them, so they don't know how to look for their food on their own anymore. They didn't chase me because they see me so often, maybe they thought I hv joined their tribe, ha ha. LOL
cc : They are quite good in sensing whether a person is scared of them or not. Next time you must try to hide your fear and they might not chase you anymore. Don't carry anything with you, especially plastic bags because they will think that it is food.
Eunice : If you catch one of their members the whole tribe will hang around your house for days and they can remember a person face very well. I think the authority should just relocate them.
Asian Traveller : Yes, this is the same species as the one in Batu Caves. This place is around 7 km to Batu Caves.
Found out that you always blog about Manjalara, Kepong area. You stay there?
