Howah Tai Chow at Poh Chuan Restaurant, Damansara Jaya – Dinner Only

The row of shop houses behind KDU Damansara Jaya that Poh Chuan is located is rather quiet at night. Other than patrons dining at the famous claypot restaurant this same row, the commercial office workers crowd is missing during the night. Howah Tai Chow would operate at night at Poh Chuan Restaurant which sells Penang hawker food during the day. Although the restaurant is a little old, you can find good family meal here at a very reasonable price. The price of the dishes start from RM2.50 for a small paper wrapped chicken (Chi Pow Kai) and RM3 for a small dish of oyster sauce green vegetable. My family had Stir Fried Yau Mak (Romaine Lettuce), Curry Pork Ribs, Hakka Style Fried Pork Ribs, Fu Yong Eggs, 2 pieces of Wrapped Chicken (Chi Pow Kai) and Pig Stomach Soup. The total bill for 4 adults, 1 children and 1 toddler plus drinks came up to be RM47.50. Howah Tai Chow at Poh Chuan is a good place for a reasonably priced and cheap but good family meal.

The fried yau mak is fresh and crunchy. Nice!

I love the curry pork ribs. The gravy has nice aroma and I flooded my rice with it. The ribs are tender Although the inner part of the ribs was a little raw but the ribs was well marinated and tasted good. The meat is tender and I guess it would be hard if the over fried it. The idea of ordering Fu Yong eggs came about when we were a little undecided of what to order! Ha ha ha! My son loves the Paper Wrapped Chicken (Chi Pow Kai). He finished most of it! The peppery pig stomach soup has nice natural sweetness and taste good! The menu with reasonably priced dishes starting from RM2.50
The stall that sells Penang Assam Laksa, Penang Har Mee and wantan mee during lunch time.
Good old family restaurant

Yit Yue Hiong Seafood, Kg Cina Lumut, Perak

My family went to Lumut for the weekend and stayed in the town Star Orient Hotel for convenience sake. We guess that it would be easier for us to go out for food in town centre rather than staying in Teluk Batik or other outskirt beach resort. Anyway, we ended up driving up to Kg Cina in search of reasonable priced and fresh seafood. There are many restaurants in this area. We drove halfway through until Ah Pek Seafood and I counted there are at least 10 restaurants along the way. Luckily, my brother in law is very familiar with this area.
There was a good crowd at Yi Yue Hiong, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered Fried Kepah (shellfish), Assam Prawns, Salted Fish Taugeh (beansprout), Clay pot tofu, Kam Heong crab, Fried Local Noodles, Thai Style Crispy Squid and fresh coconut drinks. The food here is very tasty and this is one of the best seafood dinner I ever had. I stuffed myself crazy and went a little overboard! Ha ha ha!
The total bill for 4 adults, 1 child and 2 toddlers came up to be RM99!

The fried kepah is very fresh and there is no fishy smell at all. We can taste the natural sweetness in it!

They used large white prawns for this Assam Prawn dish. The prawns are very fresh and I love the aromatic assam (tamarind) sauce that coat the juicy prawn. Nice dish!
We ordered Salted fish taugeh (bean sprout) because we love Perak taugeh which is very chubby and crunchy. The salted fish taugeh has nice ‘wok hei’ smell. Another nice dish!
Then came the clay pot tofu and this dish is for the kids. They enjoyed the soft tofu in the savoury starchy gravy.
The Kam Heong Prawns dish is out of this world. This is the best Kam Heong crab I ever tasted! The taste is very unique and different from the other Kam Heong crab dish I have eaten before. I kept on tasting the gravy to find out what extra special ingredients they put in to it. I shall be back here again to eat this dish! Mua ha ha ha ha!
We wanted to try the local noodles so we ordered this fried noodles dish. Very tasty as well! A little like Man Ee Mee.
I find Thai Style Crispy Squid rather unique in taste. It has a little honey like taste and I love it very much. The baby squid is very fresh as well!

ALL THESE FOR ONLY RM99!

Honey Serai (lemongrass) Ginger Tea Drink – Recipe

Some of my readers and friends tried out the serai (lemongrass) drink in my post Serai – Destroyer of Cancer Cells but found that it is not very tasty. Actually, it will taste better when chilled or when it is hot. Anyway, my neighbour thought me to make this Serai ginger tea drink and this is a tastier version of the remedy to destroy cancer cells. My kids love this drink very much. Here is the recipe of Honey Serai Tea Drink.

Ingredients
Serai, 3 pcs, crushed
Ginger, 1”x1”x1”, crushed
Tea (I used Lipton, any dark tea will do), 1 sachet
Sugar, to taste
Honey to taste

Pour 5 bowls of water into pot and bring to a boil. Add in the serai and ginger. Let it simmer at low heat for around 45 minutes. Add sugar and stir until it dissolves. Put in the tea bag. Turn off heat and let the temperature cool down a little bit. Add in honey and chill the drink in the fridge.

Angel Hair Spaghetti Wantan Mee Recipe - East Meets West

When my daughter asked me to cook wantan mee for supper, I accidentally discovered that I can make dry wantan mee from spaghetti as well. Actually, I do not have fresh wantan mee (egg noodles) in my fridge so I experimented with this popular hawker dish using angel hair spaghetti. The texture and taste of the spaghetti in wantan mee sauce are quite near to the original one. Check it out this recipe!

Ingredients
Angel Hair Spaghetti, 1 bunch
Garlic, 5 pcs, chopped finely
Light Soya Sauce, 3 tablespoons
Dark Soya Sauce, 1 teaspoon
Pepper, to taste
Sesame oil, 1 teaspoon
Vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons (Your can use pork lard, taste nicer)
Oyster sauce,1 tablespoon
Sugar to taste
Salt to taste
Spring onions, 2 stalks, cut into small pieces

Pour water in a pot and boil spaghetti until they turned soft. Drain away excess water and put aside. Put vegetable oil in frying pan and sauté garlic until fragrant. Add sesame oil, pepper, light soya sauce, dark soya sauce, oyster sauce, sugar and salt to taste. Pour a little water in to the mixture and bring to a boil. Add a little water and corn starch mixture to thicken the wantan mee gravy. Pour the gravy over the wantan mee and mix well. Garnish with spring onions and char siew (sweet bbq pork belly) before serving.
