Delicious German Bratwurst Sausage

Bratwurst is a German sausage and it is one of my favourite type of sausages. My German friend who resides and ran a restaurant in Rayong, Thailand would bring me a packet of frozen Bratwurst whenever he visited me in KL. My ex-company used to market some engineering equipment from him and it has been quite some time already since we last met.
Anyway, Bratwurst is derived from German word, ‘brat’ which means minced meat and ‘wurst’ means sausage. Put both words together and you have a nice and well spiced German sausage! The sausages are normally stuffed with veal, pork or beef . This tasty sausage can be boiled, steamed, grilled or fried. I would normally slow fried them using medium heat in a pan with a little olive oil. There are many version of Bratwurst sausages and they are named after the region in Germany which they originated from; ie Würzburger Bratwurst, Nürnberger Rostbratwurst, Kulmbacher Bratwurst, Fränkische Bratwurst, Nordhessische Bratwurst, Coburg Bratwurst, Rote Bratwurst and Thüringer Rostbratwurst. Bratwurst is normally seasoned with salt, pepper, nutmeg, lemon zest, oregano, marjoram or ground caraway seeds plus other European spices. Potato salad or sauerkraut is the most common side dish for this sausage. If it is a good sausage, it got to be Bratwurst! LOL!
