Chong Hwa Chinese Independent High School Kuala Lumpur 1919 - 2009

Chong Hwa Chinese Independent High School, Jalan St. Thomas, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur is one of the top secondary school in the country and it is very well known among all the educationist community in South East Asia. This year the school celebrates its’ 90 years anniversary. A ceremony was held on 17th Jan 2009 to welcome all the new form one students and it was attended by many VIPs that contributed to the development of this great school. Food stalls and other stalls selling various things were set up by the students to raise fund for the school. Although this is a private school, they still need extra funds and contribution from the public as the cost of managing and maintaining the school is rather high. Apart from that some of the students also performed stage shows in the main hall and money are collected from the sales of tickets at the entrance. Here are some of the random pictures I took at this event.

VIPs giving welcoming gifts to new Form One Students
Chinese Calligraphy Writing Contest.......................VIPs also participated!
Nice calligraphy by some of the students!
Stalls selling flowers and plants..............................this one tooth brush and books..... "Uncle, buy some tooth brush, please!"
Lok lok stall helping the school to raise fund. .....Donuts on sticks!
The most popular food stall, the kueh kark! This kueh kark man were still busy frying away when the event almost ended. There was a very long queue of students waiting for this delicious kueh kark!
East meet west.... rice with nuggets, sausage............spagetti, anyone?
Brightly colours home made jelly!.........................Vegetables......all sold out at around 1pm!
Fruit juice..................................................................Sandwiches and home made ice lolies!
Mandarin oranges with moo moo cards...............Students busy wrapping popiah!
Frying tofu under the hot sun. Notice the umbrella?.....Ice Kacang, ABC.........yummy!
Tables to have your food......................................Hot day.....drinks selling well!

Nice artwork by teenagers from an art institute

Then, this student dressed up as God of Properity asked me for a donation. This picture cost me some $$$$$$. I thought he is suppose to give me Ang Pau! Ha Ha !

Wah! Where have you been? Tot u kena tangkap ISA or sumting liao! Hahahahahaha!!!! One time, I saw an intervies on TV, the principal said they were already teaching all subjects in English and they study Chinese as a subject. True or not? (That time they wanted to start teaching Science and Maths in English) He said the students all go overseas to English-speaking countries, not to Taiwan and China.

Chris : No lah, just visiting

STP : Gone underground...ha ha. Real busy with work lorrrr. Need to close lots of sales, times are bad.
They still have some subjects in Mandarin. Many of the students there speak good English. I just saw their first term English exam papers for form one, quite high standard and lots of tricky questions.

Calvin : Ha ha, then I can collect lots of Ang Pau lorrr!
