You Are the Apple of My Eye (那些年，我们一起追的女孩 - 那些年, Na xie nian wo men yi qi zhui de nv hai - Na xie nian) is a  popular Taiwanese movie about romance between a mischievous high school boy,  Ko Chen-tung (Ko Ching-teng) and a girl, Shen Chia-yi (Michelle Chen). My kids love the show very much but I just watched part of it only and missed the ending. Anyway, it sort of reminds me of my naughty school days, chasing 'butterflies'.........Ahem!....lol! 

The video shows my eldest son attempting to play this very long song Na Xie Nian (那些年) on the piano. Not perfect, with some errors here and there; need more practice.

Finally finished editing this video after much fiddling with Windows Movie Maker! My little five year old loves PSY Gangnam Style music video and I wanted to make this parody video with my family in it so that they can remember all the good times we had together.

My daughter took most of the videos with my youngest son as the main star or you can say......Spiderman....., correction....Spiderboy! Michael Jackson pun ada (also got) lorrr.... LOL!

Datuk Lee Chong Wei played a good game against Lin Dan in the London 2012 Olympics badminton finals. But Lin Dan managed to deny us our first gold medal for the Olympics games.

Now many Malaysians are wondering, which one of our badminton players will continue the fight for Malaysia's first Olympic gold medal when Chong Wei retires?

My Daughter's Cooking Adventure 1

My 12 years old daughter loves cooking and her favourite dish is fried eggs. Like me, she would experiment with many ways to cook eggs. I do not want her to eat eggs too often but she would quickly fry some eggs  whenever I am not around so that she can have them for dinner. She secretly cooked up fried long beans and onion fried eggs without my knowledge today.  I only realised that the dishes were ready when I smelled something nice.

Anyway, I wanted her to learn to cook other dishes, so I let her cook curry chicken and fried roti Peteformation style under my supervision. Ok, tasted quite good for a 1st timer! LOL!

Ahhhh, my little 5 years old son could not resist taking a piece of fried roti to eat with the curry chicken that my daughter cooked. See the photo below.......

Now, I can relax liao!.........no need to cook so often.....ha ha ha!

How did Tok Tok Mee (Noodles) Get Its Name - Chinese Bamboo Clapper

When I was growing up in my hometown in Butterworth, there was a mobile (bicycle typed push cart) wantan mee hawker who uses a pair of bamboo clapper to attract customers. As the sound goes "tok, tok, tok", which anounces his arrival in our area would always excite us as a kid! I would quickly ask my mom for some money to buy a plate of wantan mee aka Tok Tok Mee; that is what we called it then. My good childhood friend would run back to his grandma's grocery shop and ask her for some money to buy one plate too. Then both of us would sit outside my house and savour our deliciousTok tok  mee! Those were the good old days. The tok tok mee sure tasted really good back then and until now I could not find any hawkers that could match the taste.

I came across tok tok mee again during my recent trip to Labuan but this is a different version of tok tok me that I knew since my childhood days. The texture of this instant noodle type of tok tok mee is almost the same as wantan mee (noodles) but they cooked it in clear starchy gravy instead of the usual dark soya sauce type like wantan mee. Anyway, maybe during the olden days, this similar vendor uses the Chinese wooden clapper to market his dish.

This is how theTok Tok Mee aka Wantan mee looked liked the one I used to eat back in my hometown when I was young! Missed the good old taste of it!

This is another version of Chinese wooden clapper that uses a long stick to knock the piece of bamboo....

Actually the nunchaku are adapted from a pair of Chinese wooden clapper. Peasants use the nunchaku to rebel against oppressive rulers because it doesn't resemble a weapon but looked like pair of wooden clapper so they will not get into trouble when they are caught carrying one! LOL!

Japanese Koinobori (Carp Streamer), Boys Festival (Tengo no Sekku)

My youngest son was so excited when I hang these Japanese Koinobori (carp streamer) at our house. He loves to see these carp shaped wind sock fluttering when the wind blows. Traditionally. Koinobori are put up to celebrate Japanese Boys Festival (Tengo no Sekku) (端午の節句) (Modern, Children's Day) on 5th May in Japan and most households there would start putting them up as early as April. As for me, I am even earlier.......now is only March! LOL!

The carps are put up in honour of sons in the family, hoping that they will grow up to be strong and healthy. Carp is known to be energetic and strong in fighting swift currents. Anyway, they have large black carp to represent the father and red (second biggest) for the mother. Mmmm, I wonder if there is any for daughters?

I would normally bring my family to this karoake in Subang Jaya whenever time permits. It is a good way to spend quality time with my family and they enjoy singing here very much. This is a family concept karaoke, so you will see many family with little kids there during the weekend. The cost per person is RM11.90 (++) (morning/noon session. The price includes a private karoake room usage, semi buffet (drinks, cakes, fruits) and a choice of lunch meal for each person. This offer is only valid from 11am to 2pm but if the afternoon session is not fully booked, they will extend the time to 3pm for you! lol!

Chinese New Year 2011 and 2012 - Mom

It was 2 days before 2011 Chinese New Year, my mom was diagnosed with cerebral bone spur (very painful symtoms) and was temporarily bedridden. She has already bought all the ingredients to cook for our family reunion dinner. I know that this dinner is very important to her and she would very much like our family to enjoy her cooking. Although I can whip up the same dishes, my cooking is not up to her standard. The only dish that she managed to prepare was the lobak (Five spice meat roll). Anyway, I have to take over her kitchen and cooked up the festival dish below.

My mom says the dishes are ok but I think my Accar was a little lack of flavours.....got to work on the recipe! LOL!

My sister has already bought all the ingredients to cook Penang Assam Laksa, so we cooked it on the 1st Day of New Year....yum yum!

Year after year, ever since my mom married my dad, she never fails to pay respect to our ancestors in the form of food offering. Last year was the only year she was not able to do so. My dad, wife, kids and me took over her role and set up this simple altar in the house. I want my kids to remember their ancestors, pay respect to them and also learn about Chinese Tradition.

You can see my youngest son doing his lion dance routine while we were busy praying. LOL! Look at all his toys that he left at my dad's house in the box next to our old fridge. My mom's wheelchair is next to the fridge.....my son would push it near to my mom's bed everynight. He will also place the walking stick next to my mom at night before going to bed. Never ask him why he did that...........

I was very busy the last six months and didn't blog much because I was getting my house ready to bring my mom and dad to stay with me, so that they can have proper home cooked meal and care. My mom has been caring and cooking for my siblings and me for far too many years. I guess it is time for us to do the reverse. In my house, most of the time my kids would be around to accompany them too.

For this year (2012) Chinese New Year Celebration, mom told me that she and my sister had bought some of the ingredients from the wet market. I was still wondering how she managed to go there, walking so slowly with her walking stick???

Anyway, I have prepared some of the dishes upfront and would be bringing them back home!

Oppps, Misua (Wheat Flour Vermicelli) Looked like Angry Bird.....

I cooked this misua for my youngest son who turned four end of last year...............

It was early in the morning and when he woke up, he kept on staring at the misua.....
Misua is his favourite food. I was wondering why he didn't start eating the misua immediately.

Then he said.,  "Papa, this misua looks like Angry Bird lah"......, "I want to eat the eyes first..".
Hah, must have been playing too much angry bird game the night before this!

Magical Musical - London West End

I managed to catch the Magical Musical in Sunway Amphitheatre with my family and sister on the very last day. I know that the show ended more than 3 weeks ago and I am a little late in publishing this post about it. Anyway, my kids really enjoyed the show, including my little 4 year old toddler although he was a little tired that night because he did not take his afternoon nap on that day.

The West End performer really did a good job and gave an explosive performance. They sang a series of songs from different era. Love all of them especially, Footloose......my favourite!

Sausage, Potato Wedges and Romaine Lettuce for Breakfast.....opps, wait, What is this?

One day, I cooked sausage and potato wedges to eat with Romaine Lettuce for breakfast. Then I snapped the photo below......

When I downloaded my photos into the computer, I found the photos below and was puzzled for a while! Coconut tree growing on the potato wedges! Who was the culprit?

Then I discovered this photo!

Later, I found out that my daughter had taken the plastic tree from her 'Ti Ti' (Younger brother) toy soldier set and used it in the photos. Mmmmmm, no wonder she didn't manage to finish her homework........!

Rain Rain Go Away, I want to Cycle Everyday!

My youngest son loves to cycle and he would want to ride his bicycle almost everyday. Sometimes he would bug me to take him cycling around the neighbourhood. Then, I would would have to run after him whenever he cycles too fast!
Everytime when it rains, he would start to sing Rain Rain go away! LOL!
