Sen Kee Duck Satay @ Restaurant Hao Hao Kee, Taman Desa Jaya

I took my little toddler for a ride last week after dinner but we ended up food hunting near my eldest son’s former school, SJKC Taman Desa Jaya in Kepong. I have heard about Sen Kee duck satay before this and found the restaurant just opposite the morning wet market which is part of an old theatre. Sen Kee satay stall is located inside Restaurant Hao Kee. I saw a similar Sen Kee stall in MCY Restaurant in Desa Aman Puri, which I think is one of the branches. Anyway, we parked the car and got down to check out the type of satay the stall has to offer. They sell duck satay (RM0.80), chicken satay (RM0.60) and also lamb (RM0.80) sate. The restaurant also offer cooked dishes and I saw there were quite a number of tables filled with customers eating their dinner. I ordered a takeaway set of 10 duck satay and 2 cuts of compressed rice (ketupat, 0.60 per piece). The nice duck satay nice aroma filled my car while I was driving back home and my little toddler kept on saying ‘mum mum’ (eat). Since it is duck meat, you can expect it to have a tougher texture than chicken, but the taste of duck satay is rather unique and delicious. I love the extra creamy satay sauce. This is the first time I ate duck satay but I am going back for more! PS: This area is rather dark and quiet at night, so please be a little extra careful.

A Planned Satay Bbq Dinner Aborted on Earthday – Shortcut Recipe, Satay and Sauce without Coconut Milk

I had marinated the chicken meat with all the spices to make satay (Malaysian famous food, bbq meat on sticks) when my sister called me for dinner on earth day. Ya, bbq on earth day! I can hear those environmentalists out there voicing out their disagreement! LOL! Since I agreed to join my sister for dinner, I kept the marinated chicken meat in my freezer and planned to barbecue it on another day. I did not use coconut milk for this marinade, and the final taste is still ok.We get frequent evening shower in KL, so I have to abort my plan to bbq the satay when it started to rain....., change plan again! I just put all the satay on my baking tray and roasted them in my oven! Anyway, satay still taste better if barbecued slowly over charcoal fire. Ingredients and instruction to make tasty Malaysian Famous Satay and Peanut Sauce

Meat and Marinade
Chicken Meat, around 25 pcs of breast meat with a little skin to make it tastier
Cumin powder, 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder, 2 teaspoons
Turmeric powder, 2 teaspoons
Galangal, blended, 1” square piece
Serai (lemongrass), 3 pcs, blended
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste

Marinade the chicken meat with all the ingredients and put it aside for at least 1 hour or overnight in the fridge. Barbecue the chicken using charcoal fire. You can also roast them in your oven but charcoal grilled ones taste better!

Satay Sauce
Ground nut, 1 cup, blended
Cumin Powder, 1 teaspoon
Fennel powder, 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder, 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon
Chilli paste, 3 tablespoons
Serai (lemongrass), 2 pcs, blended
Shallots, 7 pcs, blended
Tamarind juice from 1 table spoon of tamarind mix with water
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste

Mix cumin, fennel, coriander, turmeric, chilli paste, serai and shallots. Add a little water to make a paste. Put around 5 table spoons of vegetable in wok. Sautéed the spices paste until fragrant. Add tamarind juice, salt and sugar to taste. Add a little water if the mixture is too thick. Bring to a boil and put in the ground peanut.

Condiments
Onions, 2 pcs, cut into 4
Cucumber, 1pc, remove skins and seeds, cut into bite size
These condiments are to be eaten with the satay sauce.

Then...........................................the next morning......., we ate my homemade bread with the leftover satay sauce for breakfast! Yum yum!

Sate (Malaysian Spiced Barbecue Meat) Kajang Hj Samuri, Uptown Branch

This is my normal pit stop for a quick lunch of satay (Malaysian BBQ meat in sticks). I have been a customer of Hj Samuri, Kajang Satay for quite some time. They have maintained the quality of the satay quite well and it is nice to eat satay in an environment away from the smoke caused by barbecuing. Service is fast and they are generous with the gravy (kuah kacang), sambal and cucumber (timun). I had my late lunch at Hj Samuri shop around 3pm when I was in Uptown area in Damansara Utama. After waiting for around 5 minutes, my meal was served. Without any hesitation, I scooped up the kuah kacang (peanut gravy) and add a dollop of sambal (chillies) in it for extra hot ‘kick’. They gave me lots of timun (cucumber slices) and I ate all of them, uh uh, me, what a glutton! Ha Ha, but eat more greens are good after a sinful bbq meat meal! LOL Anyway, I finished 10 sticks of chunky and juicy satay in no time. Then I washed everything down with teh ‘o’ ice (Iced tea, RM1.30). The total bill came up to be RM7.30 (RM 6 for 10 pieces of satay and RM1.30 for the teh o ais). Well, although I ate my lunch late but the meal is very satifying!
