Peteformation Quickie Hokkien Mee (Prawn Noodle, Har Mee) for Supper – Recipe

Not long after I cooked Quickie Curry Mee as a supper meal for my daughter, she threw me another challenge! She wants to eat Hokkien Mee for supper after finishing her homework. I made a quick check on all the ingredients I have in my fridge and told her that her Hokkien Mee (Prawn noodle, Xia Mien) would be ready in 20 minutes. Here is how I managed to cook Penang Har Mee for her within 20 minutes. 1) Cut shallots, fish cake, soak bihun(rice vermicelli) and make hard boil eggs using rice cooker. 2) Heat up pot and put in oil. Add in small prawns with shell, chilly powder, chicken meat and shallots. Fry until shallots turn golden brown. 3) Add water to pot and let it boil for a short while. Add salt, sugar and a little dark soya sauce. 4) Put fish cake in the Hokkien mee soup. Then add in the bihun. Bring to a boil and turn of the heat. 5) Take hard boiled eggs out from rice cooker. Remove shells and put on top of the har mee (Hokkien Mee). Ting, ting, ting......’SUPPER IS READY!’ Hokkien Mee, Hokkien Mee! Hokkien Mee and A Car for my Wife - Pre Birthday Celebration!

My wife likes Hokkien Mee very much, so today I cooked Peteformation Authentic Penang Hokkien Mee for her. Since I used very little water compared with the amount of prawns, the soup turned out very tasty and sweet. My daughter ate 3 bowls and this is the first time I see her eating so much! LOL!
Made this bowl of Hokkien Mee for my neighbour!
Since the kids are busy preparing for their music exam and also school exam; we decided not to eat out today. Then, I thought of baking a cake.......took out the ingredients and started baking! The cake batter
Adding some colours; chocolate and pink
Aiya! I went outside and chit chat with my neighbour, forgot about the cake in the oven, luckily I realised on time but it was already slighty burned!
Now, what to do ahhh? Scraped off the burned part, still doesn't look nice!
Then I sketched out the shape of a car and ‘ta daaaaa’, it turned into a Beemer like the movie Cars! I used strawberries as the wheel! When my little toddler saw the cake he kept on saying, car, car , car; his favourite show! Ha ha ha!
Looks like the happiest person tonight was my little toddler! Peteformation Red and Chocolate Marble Cake Recipe I did not follow any recipe found in the book because I was actually estimating the amount of ingredients to use so that all of it would fit in just nice in to my baking pan. Luckily the cake turned out ok! I used only 1 cup of sugar for 5 cups of flour because my wife likes cakes that are not too sweet. Normally, 2 cups of castor sugar would only be sufficient for 5 cups of flour to make a cake.

Ingredients
Flour, 5 cups
Castor Sugar, 2 cups or less if you don’t want it to be too sweet
Baking powder, 2 teaspoon
Baking soda, ¼ teaspoon
Butter, 250 gms
Vanilla essence, 1 tablespoon
Cocoa powder, 1 table spoon
Red colouring, a few drops
Eggs, 5 pcs

Beat butter and castor sugar mixture until they turned light yellow. When you turn the bowl upside down, the butter and castor sugar mixture should not fall off when they are well mixed. Add vanilla essence and eggs. Mix well. Add baking powder and soda bicarbonate (baking soda) in to the flour. Use a strainer to air the flour. Add the flour into the cake batter. Mix well. Then take out around 5 table spoons of the batter, one into each bowl for the chocolate and red colour. Add in the cocoa powder to the first bowl and red colouring into the next bowl. Pour the rest of the batter into an oiled baking tray. Use a spoon to make a few ‘drains’ on the batter. Then add in the chocolate and red batter into the baking tray. Use a long stick or butter knife to pull some lines on the batter so that there will be lines of different colour in the cake. Bake in preheated oven at 180 Deg C for 35 minutes.

Restaurant Sg Long, Kajang, Selangor

My family and I had a quick lunch in this restaurant. We had some errands to run in the area and we hopped in to Restaurant Sg Long, which is the first restaurant you will notice when you turned into the road leading to UTAR in this area. It was a weekend and not many patrons around because it was way passed lunch time. As usual, my son would want to try the Har Mee (Hokkien Mee), I had the Chee Cheong Fun with Har Ko (prawn paste), my wife ordered the duck rice for my daughter and herself. Unfortunately, when the supposedly duck rice arrived, we found out it was actually chicken. This is the problem when the owner let a foreigner run their stall. Below is the review of the food!

I always love eating chee cheong fun (RM 2 for 2 rolls) with har ko (prawn paste) sauce. The sauce is nice and it was garnished with generous amount of Chee Mau (toasted sesame seeds) & crispy fried shallots. Ok, the chee cheong fun passed the test! LOL!

I took one piece of the pork ribs from my son’s Hokkien mee (RM4). It was tender, juicy and nice. The soup is quite good also and can be enhanced further by adding more of the chilly boh (paste) provided.

The braised chicken was rather bland in taste and flavours, so was the braised intestine too. I guess I am more in to flavourful and salty type of food! However, the stall owner needs to relook into his recipe! It cost me RM14 for one plate of braised chicken, one plate of braised pig intestine and 3 bowls of rice.

Hawker Food(NV) – Restaurant Meisek, USJ 14, Subang Jaya- Non Halal

1) Restaurant Meisek.............................................. 2) Har Mee (Penang Prawn Mee) 1) Pork Intestine Porridge...................................... 2) Duck Rice It was Sunday morning and I was craving for Penang Char Kueh Teow, so off we went all the way to Subang Jaya to take the famous Penang Lorong Selamat Fried Kueh Teow. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed. Wow, closed on Sunday, business must be real good! Since we were already in USJ, we hopped over to Restaurant Meisek in USJ 14, located at the shop lots just next to Sekolah Wawasan. As usual, my son ordered his favourite, Penang Hokkien Mee(Prawn Mee). Still on his quest to find one that can beat the Bdr Sri Damansara Hokkien Mee featured in my post dated 16th June 08. The gravy is more of the plain type but it is rich is taste. Priced at RM3.80 for a small bowl, it comes with a generous portion of fried shallots, prawns, sliced pork and kangkong (water convolvulus). The Hokkien Mee passed my test. My daughter wanted to eat duck rice, and I ordered a plate for her from the Lian Kee Chicken Rice Stall. I saw only one roast duck at the stall as their main dish is chicken rice. The gravy for the duck is good and the meat is tender. The aroma and texture of the rice is nice. It cost RM4.30 a plate, worth the money. My wife suggested that we try the Hong Kong Porridge as she saw many customers were having porridge for their breakfast. We ordered fried intestine porridge (Chee Chap Choke), my favourite. Priced at RM3.80 a bowl; it is served with crispy fried pig intestine, some other internal parts, green onions and ginger. Very tasty…….mmmmmm. A bowl of Har Mee is served with Kangkong (water convolvulus), bean sprout, pork and a few pieces of hard boil egg. Yum, yum …..my stomach is rumbling while writing this post. There is another stall in this restaurant that serves a good variety of cakes and kuih(local cakes) . I normally eat the yam cake, chai kuih and chai tow kuih. The Auntie manning this stall normally comes very early (around 6.30 am), so you can ‘ta pau’ some kuih for work. Opening Hours: Breakfast and lunch only, ~7.30am to ~2pm.
