Yummy Kueh Teow (Flat Rice Noodles, Cheng Tong) Soup, Heng Hoe Restaurant, Chai Leng Park, Prai – Peteformation Choice

Whenever I crave for a good Kueh Teow Soup, I will drop by in Heng Hoe Restaurant in Chai Leng Park (previously known as Alisan, just at the back of Wah Hong Restaurant). This stall is run by an old couple and they have been selling Kueh Teow Soup here for many years. I have been eating the kueh teow soup from this stall for many years and on my recent trip back to Butterworth, I suddenly realised that the uncle is getting very old and he cannot move as fast as before. I wonder how long he will be selling kueh teow here. Sometimes I really pity them, so old yet have to slog so hard to earn a living. I came to know that they do not have any children, so no one to take of them in their twilight years. Somehow, I like the taste of the kueh teow soup from this stall and to me it is the best one around. The soup is very nice and flavourful. They are quite generous with the minced pork and garnishing. It is sort of a cross between ‘Cheng Thong’ (Clear Soup Noodles) and ‘Chee Yoke Fun’ (Pork Noodles). I haven’t found a stall that can match the unique taste of this uncle’s kueh teow. Anyway, this is only my personal opinion. Sorry I don’t have the picture of the kueh teow because I ‘tar pau’ (take away) and brought them back to KL. Ha ha ha! Restoran Happy Suki SS17, PJ – Chee Yoke Fun (Clear Soup Pork Kueh Teow)

I have been to this place to eat for quite some time already but did not actually posted anything about it. A friend of mine who works in DKSH brought me to this restaurant. Happy Suki is located not far away from Lisa De In, at the ground floor of a row of low cost flat. It might take you some time to look for the place if you are not familiar with this place. The parking outside the shops here are free! There is also a stall here that sells chicken rice with some other dishes and it is common to see a stream of people waiting to ‘tar pau’ (take away) the chicken rice during lunch time. However, I have yet to try out the chicken rice. The food that I normally order in Happy Suki is the Chee Yoke Fun (Clear Soup Kueh Teow with pork). The serving is quite generous and I love the minced pork that comes with it. Sometimes the soup might not be salty enough so you might want to ask for additional soya sauce. The minced pork and slices are smooth and tender. Well this might not be the best Chee Yoke Fun but I think this is the only place in Petaling Jaya (PJ) where you can find a bowl of kueh teow that cost only RM3.50. Chow Kee Restaurant, Manjalara

Chow Kee Restaurant started business more than a year ago but I haven’t tried their food until recently. It is a bit further inside from the other group of restaurants around this area, so you can expect it not to be so crowded. I was there with my kids for breakfast and we ordered curry mee, kueh teow soup and jawa mee. The curry mee is of the creamy KL type and a cross of Penang type, taste ok. The kueh teow soup in nice and the taste surely beats many other kueh teow soups in KL. It is served with generous amount of vegetables. The Jawa Mee also has a generous amount of toppings like keropok, vegetable, cucumber strips, fried tau kwa (tofu), shallots and ground peanuts. Overall taste is ok; maybe a little extra salt would improve the taste a bit. Good place for to have breakfast, very friendly restaurant owner, customers and stall operators. Everyone there seems to know each other very well. I will be back here to try the Chee Yoke Fun; recommended by the owner.
