Marche at The Curve Courtyard

I was with my family in Marche, The Curve a few weeks a ago but didn't get to post about it earlier. At the entrance, each patron would be given a card to record down the fresh food that they purchased and cooked on the spot. One should be careful not to lose the card or else they will charge you RM200 at the exit point.
What I like about this Swiss recipe restaurant is I get to choose the fresh food I want and they will cook it on the spot for me. The whole restaurant is like a market place and my kids had a whale of time choosing the food they like.

Here are some of the random photos I snapped..

The exit.....

Good Old Yut Kee Restaurant, Jalan Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur

I guess everyone knows about this restaurant which has been operating since 1928. Yut Kee is probably one of the oldest Hainanese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur that still survive up to this day. The dishes that they serve ranges from local noodles like Hokkien fried bihun to semi western fares such has Hainanese pork chop. They also offer other dishes like roti babi, kaya toast, beef stew, rolled pork roast, beef noodles, fried misua, belachan fried rice, Hainanese Chicken Chop, Lam Mee, Lamb chop, Fried Hokkien mee and many more which I could not remember. The setting inside is nothing fancy but every time I walked into this restaurant, I felt like going back into the pre war era. They still have all the old furniture like tables with marble tops and old wooden antique counter. Recently, I went to Yut Kee with my buddy for lunch. He ordered Roti Babi (RM7.50) which is actually fried bread with pork fillings inside; while I ordered the Hainanese chicken chop (RM8.00). The chicken chop comes with some gravy and condiments like potatoes. The meals here might look simple but they are quite delicious. I wash down the chicken chop with a good hot cup of coffee (RM1.30). Address and telephone number Kedai Makanan Yut Kee 35, Jln Dang Wangi 50100 Kuala Lumpur Tel: 03 26988108 Open daily (8 am – 5 pm) & closed on Mondays Latitude 3.156157 Longitude 101.700203 Map to Yut Kee Restaurant

East Meet West Celery Sauce Elbows Macaroni with Fried Wantan (Fried Sui Kow, Chinese Dumplings)

I decided to cook my pasta differently which resulted in this recipe. Instead of using stuff like sausage, bacon or meatballs, I bought some fried wantan from the wantan mee (noodles) seller near my house as garnish for my Elbow Pasta. I love to cook using small size pasta because it would be easier for my little toddler to eat. Here is my East Meet West Celery Sauce Elbows Macaroni with Fried Wantan fusion recipe! Can add sambal belachan or chili padi if you want too! Ha ha ha!

Ingredients
Elbow Macaroni, boiled until soften, coat with butter

Sauce,
Celery, 2 stalks, and Tomato, 1pc blended
Tomato paste, 1 small tin
Chicken Meat, 250 gms, minced
Thyme, 1 teaspoon
Pepper, a dash
Onions, 1pc, chopped finely
Mozzarella Cheese, to taste
Salt to taste
Fried wantan recipe, please refer to my previous post, http://peteformation.blogspot.com/2008/09/simple-recipe-chicken-siew-mai-fried.html

Heat up pan and put in a little vegetable oil. Sautéed onions until fragrant. Add Chicken meat and stir fry for a short while. Put in the Celery, tomato, tomato paste, thyme, pepper, cheese and salt to taste. Add a little sugar if the sauce is too sour for you. Pour the sauce over the macaroni and garnish with fried wantan.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, The Curve – A Belated Birthday Celebration

My sister wanted to celebrate my eldest son belated birthday (belated due to his school examination week, can’t celebrate that time) and instead of having it at his favorite Japanese food restaurants, I wanted him to try something different. I suggested that he try the food at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant opened its’ first outlet in 1996 on Cannery Row in Monterey, California. The theme of the restaurant is based on the 1994 box office blockbuster movie, Forrest Gump, staring Tom Hanks and Sally Field. This franchise restaurant provides a casual dining environment and they serve good varieties of nice western food! I like the old wood style setting of the restaurant. The foods that we ordered are Run Across America, BBQ Chicken Salad, BBQ Beef Back Ribs, Calamari Rings and Bubba Bake Seafood Rice. The Run Across America Sampler (RM43.90) is a huge appetizer consisting of Bubba's Far Out Dip and Chips, Chilly Shrimp, spicy Chicken Strips, Hush Pups, and Mama Blue's Fried Shrimp. The Bubba’s Far Out Dip and Chips is actually tortilla chips with dipping sauce. My kids love the Mama Blue’s Fried Shrimp. The shrimp cock tail is served cold with cubes of ice. It might take Asians like us a little time to acquire the taste. I love the natural sweetness of the cool prawns! The Spicy chicken strips are a little too sour. The spinach and potato salad is good too! This is a good family dish to order if you want to sample the food that is available in the menu. The BBQ Chicken Salad (RM24.95) is very flavorful with the chunks of chicken meat added. We ate all of it rather quickly. Nice! The BBQ Beef Back Ribs (RM 62.90) main course serving is quite large and it is served with fun fries. The BBQ sauce they use has a nice hickory smoke smell. Thumbs up for this dish! The Calamari Rings (RM17.90) is my daughter’s favorite. She and my eldest son ate the most! I love the taste of the Bubba Bake Seafood Rice (RM28.90). It is one of the best ones I ever tasted. The rice is creamy and the aroma really makes you wanted to eat more! I am still wondering what herbs they used to cook this dish. The dish might look small but it is actually very filling! It was a good night out for my family and my kids enjoyed the food very much. The total bill for 5 adults and 3 kids came up to be RM237.05.

Nice decors and lots of sauces on the shelfs. I would love to have these collections.

Ditali Rigati, Italian Pasta with Cream Cheese and Hickory BBQ Sauce

It is Ditali Rigati (try to pronounce with some Italian accent)......not ‘tarik tali’ ahhhh! Ha ha ha! A half packet of this pasta has been sitting in my kitchen cabinet for quite while. Ditali Rigati is actually Italian pasta shaped like the gears in machines. My kids love the shape of this pasta and they think that it look very cool! I thought that it would be nice if I cook it using the cream cheese that I have in my fridge. As for the aroma, I used hickory barbecue sauce which already has herbs such as oregano and thyme in it, so it save me the trouble and time of adding all these stuff or making a bouquet barni (French for a bunch of herbs, eg thyme, parley and bay leaf). This is one of the quickie recipes that I cook for supper!

Ingredients
Ditali Rigati Pasta, 250 gms,
Boiled in hot water until it soften
Minced Chicken Meat, 150gms
Onions, 1 large
Tomato paste, one cup
Sugar, ½ teaspoon
Cream Cheese, 2 table spoons (you can use any other type of cheexe)
Hickory BBQ sauce, 3 table spoons
Salt to taste
Olive Oil, 3 table spoons, (can use normal vegetable oil)

Thyme, (optional), a little Heat up pan and pour some olive oil into it. Sautéed onions until it caramelized and then add in the chicken meat. Stir the mixture over slow fire and then add cheese. Add tomato paste, sugar, hickory BBQ sauce and salt to taste. Pour the sauce over the cooked pasta and garnish with lettuce or fresh tomato.

Petaling Jaya SS14 Jackson’s Burger – Homemade

Jackson's Burger Van in between the big tree and house number 144
Very clean cooking utensils and van
Sorry, the burgers a little 'kemek' after I remove them from the wrappings and took the pictures in my car!
Enjoying Jackson's burger in my car!
It has been quite some time I drop by to buy burger from this stall which is located outside house number 144 along Jalan (Road) Dato Abdul Aziz, not far away from the Digital Mall and the collapsed old Jaya Supermarket building. I don’t think the name of this burger stall got anything to do with the late king of pop, Michael Jackson. When I was working as a Junior Engineer in Section 19, my office colleagues will call the owner of this burger stall to place our orders for lunch. Then we will send someone to collect the burgers during lunch time. A Chinese husband and wife team manage this stall and they have upgraded their little stall in to a minivan over the years. The van and utensils used are very clean. Jackson burgers are home made, with available choices such as beef, chicken, fish, crab and prawn burger, including hotdogs as well! Yes, there are crab and prawn burgers sold here! I was rushing to pick up my son in KL after submitting my sales at Jaya 33 and as I passed through this area, I slowed down to see whether Jackson burger is still operating. To my surprise, they are still in business after all these years. It must have been at least more than 10 years ago since I last ate Jackson’s burger. I bought two burgers, one beef burger for my son and a chicken one for myself. Boy, they are sure tasty and I enjoyed my Jackson burger in my car while waiting for my son at his school! Price : Beef and Chicken burger, RM2.80 each Fish burger, RM3.00 Hotdog, RM2.00 Operating hours : Around 11am to 5pm Location : 144, Jalan Dato Abdul Aziz, Section 14, Petaling Jaya, Selangor Map to Jackson’s Burger

Meeting with ‘Da Boss’ 2, Opps not Again!

This is the sequel to my post Dinner with ‘Da Boss’ at Bangsar Seafood Garden Restaurant. I was ‘invited’ to meet ‘Da Boss’ again, this time for a half day meeting in HQ, Kuala Lumpur. When I was told about this meeting, my mind began to wonder, what will the meeting be about? My business partner told me straight away, ‘sure kena lecture wan’ ! Oh oh! Not me, not me, I have not been ‘very naughty’ these days! Anyway, I arrived early and found that some of the management staff was already in the lobby waiting for ‘Da Boss’. We were supposed to have lunch first before the meeting starts. Then everyone hopped over to Hard Rock cafe. I have not been back to Hard Rock cafe for quite some time already, ever since I left my last job in engineering. We all settled down to look at the menu. As it was lunch time and there will be a long meeting ahead, I decided to order something light. The food servings in Hard Rock Cafe are rather large, even the normal sandwiches can be really huge. I zoom in on a set lunch that has German Sausage, a cake dessert (I think it was Tiramisu), French Onion soup and coffee. This set sounds not too heavy, so I guessed it was the right choice. ‘Da Boss’ ordered sandwiches as he wanted something quick and simple. Boy, when the food arrived, the sandwiches portion can feed at least three persons! ‘Da Boss’ fhinished his meal so fast, while I was still struggling with my German sausage. I guess, I was rather full already after eating the starter of French Onion Soup. It turned out that the German sausage was rather different from the Bratwurst sausages that I used to eat. I have a good German friend who stays and operates a restaurant in Rayong, Thailand. Some of the food in his restaurants like sausages are directly imported from Germany. He used to bring me frozen German Bratwurst sausages which are very nice and juicy. After everyone had their lunch, we went back to the HQ boardroom for the meeting. Then ‘Da Boss’ brief us on the agenda of the meeting. Luckily, not ‘lecture session’. It was a brain storming session. I guess there is no free lunch......ha ha ha! These are the pictures that I secretly took with my HP. Sorry it is not clear because of the low intensity lighting in Hard Rock Cafe.

Oregano Baked Potato with Luncheon Meat Recipe

After learning from Suituapui, Start Me Up on how to cook baked potato I tried out the recipe and publish a post about it at Baked Mashed Potato, a.k.a Suituapui Style . I tried to cook it using luncheon meat instead of bacon and some western herbs like oregano. The result turns out quite well and I had a good hearty breakfast of baked potato with luncheon meat.

Ingredients
Potato, 5 pcs, skinned and boiled until soft, then cut into four
Oregano, 1 teaspoon
 Salt to taste
Pepper powder to taste
Tomato sauce
Luncheon meat, 3 slices, cut into cubes
Onions, 2 large pcs, cut into cubes
Cheese, 2 pcs

Oil the baking pan with vegetable oil or butter. Put the potato in the baking pan and sprinkle the oregano on top of it. Put luncheon meat and onions on the tray as well. Add salt to taste and also pepper. Line the cheese on top of the potato, spread some tomato sauce over it and bake in preheated oven at 180Deg C for 10 minutes.
