Simple Recipe - Chinese Crullers (Yau Char Kwai) with Cucumber Salad

Chinese crullers are made from flour and deep fried until crispy. It is normally eaten with porridge or Bak Kut Teh (Chinese Meat Herbal Soup). I have some leftovers crullers that I bought for breakfast and I used it as one of the ingredients for my salad. Ingredients 1) 1 pc Chinese Crullers (Yau Char Kwai) 2) 1 cucumber, cut into 4cmX1cm size 3) Thousand Island Salad Dressing or Mayonnaise. (Note: These salad dressing contain eggs, so if you a do not take eggs, please don’t use this dressing) If the Chinese Cruller is not crispy, just heat it up in oven at 150 Deg C for 15 minutes. Cut it into small pieces and let it cool down. Mix it with cucumber and add the salad dressing. The last of the Manjalara Macaque Monkeys - Macaca fascicularis

A family of Macaque Monkeys............................The leader staring at me! Howdy! (Sorry, pictures are not clear as they are high up in the tree and the morning sun was shinning into my camera) Only a few trees left!..............................................A shopping complex construction site. These macaque monkeys(Binomial name, Macaca fascicularis) have been staying in this area (Manjalara, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur) for a very long time. Now that the last piece of their habitat here will be developed, they have nowhere to go. Their home is surrounded by modern infrastructures like highways and buildings. The nearest undeveloped area is more than 5km away and I don’t think the whole tribe can make it there safely. I saw one of the female monkeys is carrying a small baby. As you can see from the pictures there are not many trees left. I think they are surviving from leftovers food from nearby restaurants. I don’t blame them if they invade the homes nearby for food as we humans have encroached in to their habitat. I sure hope that they can find their way out from here quick because a big shopping complex will be built in this land. If you have problem with wild animals in your housing area call Selangor Department of Wildlife and National Parks via phone 03-5519 3915/ 03-5519 0817/ 03-5510 6328, or go to the office located in Jalan Lanar 8/15, Seksyen 8, Shah Alam, Selangor. Foong Yit Restaurant – Sri Sinar, KL, Assam Fish, Braised Pork Knuckle, Fried Salted Egg Squid, Lotus Roots(non halal)

1) First Visit My lovely dinner date Miss A(woooo cannot say name, my wife will hentam(smack) me lorrr) took me to this restaurant in Sri Sinar. Since there were only two of us, we ordered the restaurant specialty Assam Fish and a side dish of sweet potato leaf. The assam fish has bunga kantan(torch ginger) and bean paste in it, so the taste is a bit different from the normal assam fish that you can find in other restaurants. We were given two complimentary bitter gourd soups. The soup stock is made from boiled fish bone, a real health dish. Bitter gourd is good in clearing toxins from our body. Foong Yit Restaurant...........................................Nice Assam Tilapia Fried sweet potato leaf...........................................Complimentary bitter gourd soup 2) Second Visit I went back again last week to eat in this restaurant. This time I have a gang of 7 people, so can order more food. The boss recommended the Braised Pork Knuckle, Fried Squid with Salted Eggs and Fried Lotus Roots. We also ordered Kailan and Assam Fish. The Braised Pork Knuckle portion is big but we managed to finish all of it. The meat is very tender. The fried squid is very nice with a tinge of saltiness from the salted egg yolk. The fried lotus roots dish is quite special. It consists of 2 pieces of lotus roots slices held together by I think, fish paste. (A bit like yong tau foo). A creative dish! The total big plus drink came out to be RM87.00. A very reasonable price. We paid RM90.00 initially but the boss said that he has mistakenly overcharged us, as we were walking to our car and gave us back RM3.00. Honest fella! An Outing at Desa ParkCity Park, Gated Township with High End Houses and Condominium

Desa ParkCity is a gated township with high end condominium and houses. I used to fish in the pond there before they develop this piece of land. I have caught many catfish and ikan belida from the pond. Sometimes I would go straight to the pond straight after work with my friends and fish until nightfall. Crazy old days! I took my family there last week to check out the commercial area and the nice park within the township. The commercial area has many nice restaurants and places to hang out. So if you see a guy in pagoda singlet, shoulder long hair and slippers blogging away in one of the Café there, very likely it is me. Ha Ha ….LOL Aeon (Jaya Jusco) has an outlet there. The commercial area and park are accessible to the public but the residential areas are guarded. To go to the place, you have to take the LDP from Ikea heading towards Kepong. After the toll, you must keep to the left lane and don’t go over to the right flyover that take you to MRR2 to Kuantan. You will see a U turn before a traffic light below this fly over. Take the U turn and keep left and turn left at the first left junction. You will reach a roundabout, take 3 o’clock and go slow through the Desa ParkCity guardhouse. You will come to another roundabout. 9 o’clock will take you to the front of the commercial area and 3 o’clock will take you to the back of the commercial area and the park. Click here for Desa ParkCity Map GPS (Park) Latitude 3°11'13.71"N Longitude 101°37'40.47"E Here are some of the pictures I took at Desa ParkCity. Investment and Financial Management - Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?

Here are some interesting figures on how you can achieve your target of one million dollar! Save $500.00 monthly for 30 years (accumulated amount) If the return is 4% per annum, the final value will be $347,025 If the return is 6% per annum, the final value will be $502,258 If the return is 8% per annum, the final value will be $745,180 If the return is 10% per annum, the final value will be $1,130,244 Sounds easy? You will have to look for an investment vehicle that can provide you with consistent returns and manage your investment risk properly. Always remember, investment is something that is long term. Timing the stock market for quick profit and short term is risky, just like gambling. It is always a good practice to save first before you spend every month. If you are unable to even make ends meet every month, that means you have either over spent or did not manage your finance properly. Do not overcharge your credit cards. I spoke to some people that provide debt restructuring services last month and they told me that most of the bankruptcy cases are from the people that did not manage their credit cards spending properly. If you are unable to save $500 every month, you can create it by looking for a secondary income stream. Time is the essence in investment, so start working on your financial plans early! Simple Recipe – Chicken Siew Mai, Fried Sui Kau and Sui Kau Soup (Chinese Dim Sum)

It is Ramadan month again and I wish our Muslim friends selamat berpuasa. I made this chicken siew mai recipe so that my muslim friends can try them out during the puasa month. I decide to make three of the above dishes at one go. Here are the recipes.

INGREDIENTS
50 pcs of Wantan Sheets (Around RM1.00)
1 Carrot, cut into round thin piece (10 pcs)

For the filling
300 gms of Minced Chicken Meat
150 gms of Minced Prawn Meat (Cut into bigger pieces if you like to feel the chunkyness of the prawns)
2 teaspoons of corn flour
2 teaspoons of salt or to taste
3 teaspoon of sesame oil
3 teaspoon of vegetable oil ( I added oil because I used lean Chicken Meat or else the Siew Mai filling will not be smooth)
1 tablespoon of Shao Shing Chiew(optional)
2 Water Chestnut, remove skin and chop in to small pieces
2 stalks of spring onions chopped finely
1 onion, chopped finely
2 table spoon of soya sauce
½ teaspoon of pepper
Add all the ingredients above and stir well.

A) Siew Mai(Steamed)

1) My giant size soya sauce, shao shing shiew, Sesame oil, spring onions, water chestnut, minced chicken, minced prawns and wantan skins 2) All the ingredients mixed and ready. This following pictures show you how to make the siew mai. Scoop one table spoon of filling into the wantan skin. Then fold as above. Use your thumb and index finger to shape the top and bottom. Put the siew mai on carrot slices so that it will not stick to the plate. (Learned this from Chef Martin Yan) LOL! Since I don't have fish eggs, I used finely chopped carrots to decorate the siew mai top. I made 10 siew mai. Ready before steaming. Siew mai ready after steaming for 20 minutes.

B) Fried Sui Kow
I made sui kow from the rest of the filling and wantan skin. Just put some filling(use less than the one for siew mai) and fold the skin in to a triangle shape. Before you fold the sui kow, spread some water between the surface so that it can stick well together. I made 40 pcs of sui kow. Deep fry the sui kow in hot oil until crispy. Two plates above are the sui kow before frying. I fried 33 sui kow. (7 to be used for soup)

C) Sui Kau Soup
2 bowls of Water
1 stalk of spring onions
½ chicken bones
Salt to taste
Choy Sum (green vegetable, cabbage green)

Cut the rest of the leftover carrots into cubes A dash of pepper Put the water into a pot and boil. Add in chicken bones, carrots and 1 stalk of spring onions when the soup is boiling. Then add salt and a dash of pepper. Put in the 7 pcs of the Sui Kow that you have made earlier(in B). Boil for 2 minutes. Add Choy Sum. Garnish with chopped spring onions before serving. The sui kow soup..................................................Tasty sui kow. HAPPY COOKING!
