Berapit, Bukit Mertajam Mr. Foo Charcoal Fire Char (Fried) Kueh Teow
When my brother in law asked me whether I want to eat Char Kueh Teow fried using charcoal fire, I gladly say yes. He told me the Char Kueh Teow stall only open at night and it is located in a small town Berapit, at Lorong Berapit 1 junction. He said that he will take me there if I don’t mind eating in a dark standalone Char Kueh Teow stall. That makes it more interesting!
It has been a while since I last ate Kueh Teow fried with charcoal fire.
We arrived in Berapit at 10pm and there were only two customers at his stall. I thought he was about to close his stall but I was wrong. After a while, streams of customers start trickling in to order takes away. Business is real good! His stall is located on the main road just outside a restaurant that is closed for business at night. The small road next to the stall leads to a temple on top of a hill. Mmmmm, I wonder whether they teach Shaolin Martial Art lesson there. LOL!
Mr Foo, the owner took over the business from his father and their family has been in this location for the last 30 years. He is a very friend and soft spoken guy. He fried his kueh teow in a very relaxed and cool style, real kung fu at work. I guess after being in this business for such a long time he has mastered the art of CKT to the highest level.
The taste of the fried kueh teow is simply delicious, with a little tinge of charcoal fire aroma and lots of kuchai (Chinese Chives). This brings back some nostalgic feeling of my childhood days, eating this type of charcoal fire fried kueh teow for supper!
His Kueh Teow is priced at RM2.30 for small serving and RM2.50 for large serving.
I will definitely be back here again on my next trip.
