Afternoon Tea Time- Delicious Ah Beng Assam Laksa at Kangar, Perlis

I went food hunting with my Foodie Brother in law up far north to Perlis, near the border of southern Thailand. Ah Beng Laksa (sour spicy rice noodles soup) located in Jalan Bukit Lagi right in the heart of Kangar which is the capital of Perlis.

At first I wanted to eat the assam laksa from a stall that is operated by a Thai lady but my brother in law told me that she has moved elsewhere. This particular small coffee shop which is opposite the Perodua outlet also has nice lobak like fritters. Anyway we have to decide whether to have lobak or laksa. Our final decision was to eat the  laksa at Ah Beng's stall which is directly opposite Kangar Maybank.

At 4.30pm, they have ran out of thick rice noodles, so we settled for fine rice noodles assam laksa (RM2.50). The gravy is sourish and have really nice 'laksa' (daun kesom) aroma. The saltiness is just right. All these flavours make up a perfect combination. This is one of the best Assam Laksa I ever tasted. Beat any of the stalls from KL anytime!

 My brother in law says that I should try the Thai Laksa (RM2.50) which has coconut milk added. It taste equally good as the Assam Laksa. I love the sweet aroma of the fresh coconut milk (santan) in the Thai Laksa. Yum Yum!Sweet aroma, sourish, saltiness, generous amount of fish meat; All in one! Another thumbs up for this Thai Laksa. It beats all the Thai Laksa that I have ever eaten! Really Delicious!

 We down all the assam laksa with a cool bowl of Ais Kacang (sweet shaved iced) (RM1.70). Just the right sweetness for me!
