Manjalara Monkeys - They Survived!

These 2 photos are taken from my previous post The last of the Manjalara Macaque Monkeys - Macaca fascicularis dated 8th September 2008. During that time, there were still lots of trees around this area and the construction of Tesco Hypermarket (Kepong Village) was at its' initial stage.
Recently, while I was walking towards Top Kitchen, I saw this very same family of monkeys are still around. I was very happy to see them surviving well after my last sighting 2 years ago. I hope they will not chop down more trees and let these monkeys continue living in this area.
Mmmmm, maybe with hypermarkets and MBO cinema in this area, they have turned into urban monkeys!

it's terrible what we are doing to our environment, human sprawl.

Yup...they can be a nuisance and at times, dangerous too. Here, at Bako National Park, if you leave your food on the table in your chalet, it will all be gone - stolen by the monkeys.

Remember the case posted by Tekkaus that a baby was killed by monkey. Pray nothing of this sort happens again with the 'migration' of forest to urban places.

Nature will find a way to survive or fight back.

quite an unlikely sight to see monkeys around, they must really love those trees.

Hi Pete,

Unlike many other animals, monkeys adapt well with their environment. The situation is the other way round, we humans are actually afraid of them. Hahaha!

Hi Pete
I am scared of monkeys. Was bitten once when I was little. Phobia till now.But I don't hate them at all. We have encroach into their territory and the poor creatures have to adapt or die.
Thank you for sharing.

Monkeys get urbanised so quick, I think :-)

You remind me of a monkey that we kept as a pet when I was young. It later turned aggressive and wanted to bite my little brother each time he saw my brother. Finally my parents had to get rid of him. It was really scary.

Monkeys can adapt well in most places. There was one monkey which loitered around my neighbourhood and it was a nuisance because it stole fruits from praying alters, ate and made a mess. It was quite aggressive too and once chased a little girl!

I'm not into monkeys...
