Simple Orange Chicken Recipe

After savouring the nice orange chicken dish at Chan Heng Tambun, I came up with my own version. You can use deboned chicken or chicken meat for this recipe. As for me, I have stock for 2 chicken thighs and since I was rushing to cook dinner, I didn't deboned them. I used KFC flourthat I bought off the shelf to deep fry the chicken before pouring the orange sauce over it. You can use any flour for frying chicken for this recipe. Just make sure that you don't add too much salt to the sauce because some deep frying flour for chicken can be a little salty.

Ingredients
Chicken Meat, 500 gms
Deep frying flour, enough to coat chicken
Egg white from 1 egg
Orange juice from 1 orange
Orange rind, just a little
Salt to taste
Sugar to complement the orange juice if it is sour
Corn flour and water mixture

Pour the egg white onto the chicken meat and mix well. Coat chicken with deep frying flour and deep fry them in hot oil until crisp. Take out the chicken and drain away excess oil. Pour a little water in a pan and bring to a boil. Add in the corn flour and water mixture to thicken the sauce. Add salt and sugar to taste. Pour in the orange juice and add the orange rind. Bring to a boil and pour the orange sauce on top of the crispy deep fried chicken meat.

Something like honey lemon chicken? I dislike honey lemon chicken served overseas coz they tend to be overly sweet and catered to western tastebuds.

I like orange or lemon chicken too. But lazy to make because I have to deep-fry first and then cook the sauce to pour over. :P Yours look good!

i do not know abt this particular restaurant cos i seldom go over to that part of the town but this orange chicken sounds good to me. Not sure if other restaurants have this too. Nice to have a change from the usaul lemon chicken and i think it's very clever of you to make this dish on your own!!
